ABSTRACT
La Espasmofemia, Tartamudez, o Disfemia, como se conoce actualmente la enfermedad, es una alteración en el ritmo y la fluidez del habla. Se evalúan las teorías respecto de la etiología de la enfermedad, donde aún no está clara una causa única, presentándose como una alteración multifactorial. Se presentan las posibilidades de tratamiento actual; incluyen la foniatría, psicología y el uso de órtesis para lograr mejorar o al menos manejar, de parte del paciente, los factores que inciden en afectar la fluidez del lenguaje. Se entregan algunas pautas para los padres de niños con Espasmofemia.
Stuttering is a speech disease that involves the rythm and fluency of speech. The different etiology hyphotesis are evaluated, and although the etiology of stuttering is no fully understood, there is strong evidence that it is a combination of constitutional and enviromental factors. The treatment options are evaluated, and they include Speech therapy, Psicology therapy and the use of Electronic devices, trying to improve the pacients speech. Some indications for parents are given.
